The Ocean Signal EPIRB1 should only be activated in situations of grave and imminent danger. If any EPIRB is deliberately misused, it might result in a severe penalty.

How do I Manually Activate my EPIRB1?

  1. Remove the EPIRB1 from its bracket, by pushing down the tab on the bottom of the cradle
  2. Pull the red antenna tab out completely until firm resistance is felt
  3. Remove break off tab
  4. Lift the protective flap and press the ON key for one second, until the green LED light starts flashing and then release the key
  5. Hold your EPIRB with the antenna standing vertically. Keep the area marked 'GPS Antenna' free from obstruction, to reduce any interference with the GPS reception.

How does the EPIRB1 Automatically Activate?

The EPIRB1 will automatically activated in the same manner as below after a short delay. When operating the EPIRB in water, tether the beacon to your body or life-raft.

How long will the green LED flash for?

During operation, the green LED will flash once every five seconds while the GPS is turned on and ontaining a fix. Once a fix is obtained, the green LED will flash quickly three times.

What does it mean if it flashes red?

Each time a 406MHz transmission is made the LED will flash quickly five times; green for transmission with a GPS position and red for a transmission without position.

The red LED will flash every 2.5 seconds which the 121.5MHZ homing beacon is active.
